Though challenges and changes in life are a given, it’s how we handle them that…
This past week has been an interesting Reiki week for me. Twice I’ve had the opportunity to use Reiki in the most unexpected circumstances. This week I’ve written about the first one.
To Calm The Panic
My son has given me his permission to share the following with you in the hope that it helps others.
Last Thursday night he had what I can only describe as an anxiety attack. The week before he had completed his year 6 SATs and I believe that a build up of unexpended energy caused the anxiety attack. He was scared, he’d never experienced anything like it before.
He complained to me of having a rising feeling of worry in his tummy and that his heart was beating really fast. I felt his heartbeat by putting my hand over his heart space and sure enough, his heart was racing.
We started by doing some deep breathing in and out. This helped for a moment to calm him and then his heart began racing again. We chatted and I asked him if he was worried about anything and what he was thinking about when he started feeling this way. He couldn’t think of anything specific.
Reiki To The Rescue
It was at this point that I decided to try Reiki. Since starting my Reiki journey, I have never been so grateful for the ability to administer it.
I began with a scan to check where the Reiki energy was most needed. Two areas jumped out at me – his head and his base chakra.
Starting with the head I placed my hands underneath for a few minutes. Followed by on the sides. I then felt drawn to move my left hand to his crown chakra and my right hand to his third-eye chakra. Feeling my hands getting warmer I knew I’d hit the right spot. During this time, his head fell to the side and I watched him begin to relax. I stayed here until I felt drawn to move on.
Following this, I moved to his base chakra. What I found here confirmed my initial thoughts. He was massively ungrounded. My hands were tingling like mad. The only way I can describe it is like mild pins and needles.
I stayed in this area for quite some time, during which my son experienced a massive pent up energy release and burst into fits of hysterical laughter. In fact, he laughed so hard it made him cry!
Having an energy release whilst having a Reiki treatment is perfectly normal and usually comes in the form of laughter or crying.
I finished in this area by using a grounding Reiki symbol , which I also did on both his feet.
I then did a follow-up scan and more Reiki on his heart space and lower legs. Following this I brushed down his aura and wrapped him in three layers of protection.
What Happened Next?
After the Reiki treatment my son was so much calmer and settled down to sleep. Still a little rattled by the experience, he used an affirmation he likes: “I am a fluffy cloud” and went to sleep saying that to himself.
What I Learned From The Experience
- I am capable or remaining calm under pressure (at the same time as being a concerned parent)
- I knew exactly what to do and did it
- Reiki is definitely ‘my thing’
- How much more I can learn to enable me to utilise Reiki more effectively.
Note: the boy in the picture is not my son.
